BTS members “the South Korean band” announced their intention to perform compulsory military service, ending the controversy in Korea over their exemption because of their artistic achievements.
The company that runs their business said in a statement in several languages that BTS members will perform their mandatory military duties under South Korean law. This step will lead to their absence from the art scene as a single group until 2025, according to the company.
The company confirmed that Jin, the band’s oldest member, will cancel his enlistment deferment request at the end of the month and take the required enlistment steps.
The other six BTS members are also preparing to serve in the military, according to the statement the company described as management-related information that could influence investment decisions.
