A Dutch man had to undergo reconstructive surgery on his genitals after being bitten by a cobra while sitting on the toilet.

The 47-year-old, who is in good health, was on vacation in South Africa at a nature reserve when a cobra came out of the toilet and clung to his genitals, according to details published in the medical reports.
The man waited three hours to be flown by helicopter to the nearest trauma center, about 350 kilometers away, after suffering what the medical journal described as the first case of “nasal cobra poisoning of the genitals.”
During this wait, the victim reported feeling “a burning sensation in his genitals and pain that went up through the thigh to his flank, upper chest and abdomen”.

When he arrived at the hospital, his genitals were swollen and dark purple, which doctors say indicates necrosis of the scrotum – commonly referred to as “flesh-eating disease”.
According to the medical report, he received multiple doses of unspecified snake antivenom and broad-spectrum antibiotics.
The report stated: “It was reported that necrosis of the scrotum involved the entire fascia, and it was excised with wide margins. The defect in the stick was treated by superficial endoscopy and vacuum-assisted closure pump.”
Nine days later, the man returned to the Netherlands where a plastic surgeon performed a “radical debridement of his sensitive organ, with extensive excision of the dead tissue that extends from the spongy body to the fold of the foreskin. After that, a graft from the upper thigh was placed on the organ, and he was discharged from hospital after Two weeks later, doctors found that the wounds had healed successfully, and that the function and sensation of his organ had fully recovered.
