The Swedish climate protection activist Greta Thunberg calls for new protests for the coming Friday. Where it is safe, there will also be rallies on the street, said the 17-year-old at a virtual press conference yesterday. Otherwise, the Internet will be used.
“We will signal that we have to treat this crisis as a crisis,” she said, referring to climate change. Politicians would not recognize how serious the threats from forest fires, floods, heat waves and cyclones already are. “We keep forgetting that people are dying today because of the climate crisis.”

Thunberg’s school strike, which began two years ago, had expanded into a worldwide movement under the motto “Fridays for Future”. Due to the coronavirus pandemic and the associated requirements to keep your distance, there had been only a few major public events of the movement recently. Over 2,300 protests have been announced on the “Fridays for Future” website for next Friday.
