Nord Stream 2 On Hold
For the time being, Germany stopped the approval process for the Baltic Sea pipeline “Nord Stream 2”.
Berlin – Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered troops to be sent to the embattled eastern part of Ukraine. The units are supposed to ensure “peace” in the “People’s Republics” of Luhansk and Donetsk, which he had just recognized as independent states. For the time being, Germany stopped the approval process for the Baltic Sea pipeline “Nord Stream 2”.
“Nord Stream 2” cannot go into operation without the necessary certification, said German Chancellor Olaf Scholz: “We cannot accept the Russian recognition of the separatist areas.”
Putin had previously confirmed in a TV speech that he recognized the independence of the pro-Russian separatist regions of Donetsk and Luhansk. He considers it necessary to make this “long overdue decision,” said Putin. At the same time, he concluded an agreement on “friendship and assistance” with the representatives of the two pro-Russian separatist regions.
