President Of Haiti Was Assassinated In A Terrifying Attack
The president of Haiti has been killed in an attack at his home, an official has said.
Haiti – The interim prime minister, Dr Claude Joseph, said Jovenel Moise had died in an assassination at his private home in the Caribbean country. He called it a “hateful, inhumane and barbaric act”.
The Haitian government imposed martial law
The Haitian government imposed martial law across the country, against the backdrop of the assassination of President Jovenel Moise, by unknown assailants last night.
Acting Prime Minister Claude Joseph (assuming the reins of government after the assassination of President Moise), confirmed in a televised statement today, Wednesday, that the Cabinet adopted this decision during an emergency session it held in light of the latest dramatic developments in the country.
Joseph said that some of the perpetrators of the assassination spoke both Spanish and English.
Earlier in the day, the Haitian authorities closed Port-au-Prince International Airport.
President Moise, who had been leading the country since 2017, was assassinated at dawn today by unidentified gunmen who stormed his private residence.
First Lady Martin Moyes was also injured as a result of the operation and was taken to hospital, with unconfirmed reports that she died of her injuries.
