Shakira Sells Rights To 145 Of Her Songs
Colombian pop star Shakira has sold the rights to 145 songs to the London-based investment firm Hipgnosis Songs Fund.
The three-time Grammy winner has sold more than 80 million singles and albums worldwide. Her biggest hits include “Hips Don’t Lie” and “Underneath Your Clothes”. She joins colleagues like Neil Young, who recently also sold music rights to Hipgnosis.
One reason for this is probably the CoV crisis and the resulting collapse in concert life. For many artists, this means that significant income is lost. Hipgnosis did not provide details of the sale.
Shakira herself stated that as soon as her songs are in the world, “no longer belong only to me, but also to those who value them”. In any case, Hipgnosis is “a great home for my catalog”.
