Largest Solar Power Plant
Egyptian Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Mohamed Shaker, revealed a government plan that aims to increase Egypt’s dependence on renewable energy by more than 42 percent by 2035.
Egypt– Today, Monday, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi inspected the Benban Solar Energy Complex in Aswan Governorate, during the inauguration of a number of projects related to the electricity sector in the governorates of Upper Egypt.
The Benban Solar Energy Complex is the largest solar power plant in the world, which was established in partnership with the private sector and specialized international expertise. It is also one of the most important infrastructure projects in Egypt to generate electricity from new and renewable energy.

-The project site is one of the brightest areas in the world.
-It is built on an area of 37 km2, comprising 8843 acres.
-The size of the solar panels used in one station is 200 thousand panels.
-It includes 40 power plants, each with a capacity of 50 megawatts.
-The capacity of the Benban plant of electricity production is 2000 megawatts.
-40 specialized companies participated in the project, including 10 international and Arab companies.
-The investment cost of the project is 3.4 billion euros, estimated at 40 billion pounds.
-Benban project provides 10,000 job opportunities.
-The capacity of the plant is equivalent to more than 90% of the production of the High Dam.
-The project contributed to avoiding 2 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions.
-10% of the profits of the companies participating in the project have been allocated to social responsibility.
-The project won the Arab Government Excellence Award and was named the World Capital of Solar Energy.
The Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy explained that Egypt has an ambitious strategic plan that aims to reach 10,000 megawatts of renewable energy production in the first half of 2023, and in 2035 the country will depend on 42 percent of clean energy.
