US Congress Delegation Visits Taiwan

Members of the US Congress would visit Taiwan overnight, the US Mission in Taiwan said.

Shortly after the controversial visit to Taiwan by the President of the US House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, another American delegation is traveling to the island republic.
The visit is part of a trip to the Indo-Pacific region, according to the statement by the representation, which performs the duties of an embassy. Meetings with Taiwan politicians will deal with relations between the two republics and global supply chains, among other things.

Pelosi visited Taiwan in early August. China sees the visit as a provocation and a violation of its own sovereignty and, following Pelosi’s departure, launched maneuvers in the immediate vicinity of the island on an unprecedented scale.
Most recently, 13 Chinese warplanes entered Taiwan’s airspace yesterday. The government in Beijing regards Taiwan as a breakaway province and is threatening all countries that maintain or establish contacts with the democratically governed island with consequences.
