Walmart Faces A Lawsuit Over The Opioids

The US government has filed a lawsuit against Walmart in connection with the opioid crisis. The retailer illegally served thousands of prescription drug prescriptions, according to the Justice Department’s complaint.

The group has drawn a “substantial benefit” from this, but has exacerbated the consequences of the crisis. With this, Walmart violated its obligations to dispense medication. The group rejected the allegations as an obvious attempt to shift the blame on the state authorities for poor supervision. In addition, the lawsuit contains numerous incorrect information.

The company denied allegations

Walmrt responded with violent criticism of the lawsuit and denied the allegations. The US Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) failed in the opioid crisis by failing to prevent doctors from inappropriately prescribing opioids. Now Walmart is being blamed. The lawsuit invented an incomprehensible legal theory and was full of factual inaccuracies.
Since 1999, about 450,000 people in the United States have died from overdoses of prescription pain relievers and illegal drugs in the wake of the opioid crisis.

Legal action against government in autumn

For its part, Walmart had already taken legal action against the US government at the end of October to clarify whether drug dealers could be held responsible. The company thus pre-empted the government’s lawsuit. The company argues that employees were only doing their duty, offering drugs that were prescribed to customers by doctors licensed by the US authorities.
